Parchment (in the) making

Perfect successor of a long tradition of parchment production and processing, dating back to the beginning of the 14th century, Lucreția Miu, one of the very few masters of this increasingly rare craft in an age dominated by digital technologies, prepares at the Library of the Romanian Academy from Cluj-Napoca, two demonstration workshops for the production and processing of parchment. Together with part of the project team, Lucreția Miu selects from the Library’s warehouses, for the workshop, parchments made from different types of animal skins. She microscopically analyzes the state of preservation and/or decay of various selected parchments and provides consultation to librarians and project team members.
