There are moments when the past no longer remains a simple lesson from a textbook, but becomes an almost living breath, a whisper that can be heard if one learns how to listen. We invite you to experience such a moment during a guided tour of the exhibition FRAGMED – A Transylvanian puzzle: reconstructing medieval culture from manuscript fragments hosted by the Library of the Romanian Academy, Cluj-Napoca Branch – Cluj-Napoca Branch.
There, among parchment leaves bearing the patina of centuries, history pulses. Manuscript fragments—once hidden inside bindings, forgotten in storage, or scattered by time—are brought together again like pieces of a vast cultural mosaic. Each carefully calligraphed letter, each ornamented initial, each trace of ink tells a story about faith, learning, community, and memory.
We invite you to step beyond the threshold of the present and discover how knowledge was constructed in a multilingual and multicultural medieval Transylvania, how ideas circulated, how intellectual elites were formed, and how, from seemingly modest fragments, an entire world is reconstructed today.
The guided tour organized throughout January 2026 is not merely a presentation of rare objects, but an encounter with the fertile silence of former libraries, with the patience of the scribe, and with the destiny of the book as a witness to history. It is an opportunity to understand that cultural identity is not born from grand gestures, but from quiet accumulations—from texts copied in the dim light of a candle, from pages that survived storms, reforms, and oblivion.
Come and look closely at these fragile testimonies and perhaps discover that they speak not only about the past, but also about ourselves. For sometimes, in order to understand the present, we must learn once again to read the traces left behind by time.
